Signs That My Radiator Is Not Working

Signs That My Radiator Is Not Working

The radiator is an essential part of the cooling system. The radiator stores coolant and cools it off once it has been circulated through the engine. A radiator should last between 8 to 10 years. The radiator will last longer if it is well maintained. We will list the signs that your radiator needs to be replaced. We need to see your vehicle as soon as possible to avoid excess engine damage.

Coolant Leaks

Leaking radiators are caused by internal corrosion. This corrosion is found at the radiator’s bottom. The corrosion will eat through the bottom of the radiator, and, unfortunately, it will eventually leak onto your garage floor. Your automobile’s temperature may rise or fall depending on how much coolant is leaking. You should replace a leaking radiator as soon as possible.

Orange Coolant

If the coolant turns orange, you will know the radiator has corroded. This is because the coolant has rust in it. Even if the radiator does not leak, it should be replaced. The corrosion can block the coolant flow through the engine because it can clog the radiator. It is possible for the corrosion to travel with the coolant throughout the engine and clog radiator hoses.

Blocked Inlets

Radiator cools the coolant by using outside air. The radiator has fins that draw air over the coolant. Dirt and other debris can block these fins. When this happens, you lose the outside air that flows into the radiator to cool off the coolant. Unfortunately, the inlets may not be able to be cleaned. If this is the case, the radiator will have to be replaced.

Inlets That Are Damaged

The fins can also be damaged by road debris. In severe cases, the dents may have sealed the fins and prevented air from flowing through them. If the coolant temperature in the radiator is not decreased, hot coolant will circulate through the engine continuously. This will cause the engine to overheat every time that you drive your automobile.

Overheating

As we just mentioned, this, along with the other issues discussed above, will cause your engine to overheat constantly. You should not drive your car if the engine is too hot. Driving the vehicle too hot can lead to engine damage and exhaust system problems.
